Utility
Network
Load uses each utility's electrification/EV hosting-capacity layer; storage uses the published BESS/charging layer. PV/generation is excluded (irrelevant to a battery + data-center load). Where a utility publishes no BESS layer, its PV layer is used as a storage proxy and every popup says so. Values are available capacity in MW. In Combined, lines are colored by the average of Load & Storage.
Off by default. These dense NYC underground network zones are poor 10–20 MW siting candidates and add clutter. Toggle on to draw their RemainingMW polygons and include them in site matching.
Capacity legend (MW)
Service territory
The shaded area is where the utility publishes capacity data — i.e. the served territory. Substations and candidate sites are filtered to this footprint; anything outside is excluded from the analysis.
Substations
NYSEG/RG&E and National Grid use the utility's own substation points (precise coordinates; NYSEG/RG&E include published distribution remaining-capacity). Transmission-scale substations (≥115 kV) always come from HIFLD. Con Ed, O&R and Central Hudson have no native point layer, so they stay on HIFLD unchanged.
Transmission lines
Every In-Service transmission line within New York — all utilities — drawn with real line geometry and colored by kV class. Not clipped to the service territory. Click a line for details.
Candidate sites
Schools are the demand-side site universe: large, distributed, already-served parcels. Only schools inside the active service territory (where capacity data exists) are shown/loaded.

Spatial (optional)
Tip: switch to the Footprint tab and click the map to capture a center point.
Dual-use eligibility
A site qualifies for large load + battery only when a Load segment ≥ load-min and a Storage segment ≥ storage-min lie within the eligibility distance on the same feeder (one point of interconnection). The matched feeder ID is shown in each site's breakdown.
Site eligibility (optional)
Substation & transmission criteria are optional — leave blank to not require them. Nearest distances are always computed & exported.
Add a site
Or click the map (Footprint tab) to capture coordinates, or use the search box on the map.
Upload sites
Excel/CSV needs lat, lon (or latitude, longitude). Each sheet becomes its own colored layer. Or load a saved .json session.
Site analysis 0
Press Run Find (Find tab) to analyze every loaded site against the current parameters — it highlights matching feeders and analyzes the sites in one step. Each site shows feeders + sum gen/load/storage within 0.1/0.3/0.5 mi, qualifying feeders, nearest substation & transmission line. With criteria set, only matching sites are listed (click chips to zoom).
Coordinate capture
Toggle on, then click anywhere on the map to log each point's time, county, and lon/lat.
No captured points yet.
Site footprint
Adds lot area (NYS Tax Parcels), building area (USA Structures), and outdoor area (lot − building) to each site. If no parcel is found the site is flagged (no estimate).
All loaded sites
Load schools first (Layers → "Load in-territory schools"), then run this to footprint every school at once.
Single point
Click a point on the map to compute parcel area, building footprint, owner, and nearby substations.
Advanced: where parcel data comes from
Through the Cloudflare Worker (static hosting) parcel/building lookups work automatically. Only set this if you host the page statically: paste your Worker URL.
